howdy doody,

right the more offroading i do the more "adventurous i get" and recently with allthe weather its been getting deeper.

So decided to go out and get a southdown snorkel which i fitted tonight in a feww hours, i want to get some tiger seal and make sure there fully sealed, but my question is..where else do they leak from,

Iv found a hole under wheel arch on pass side, now sealed. iv got a small leak somewhere on drivers side that trickles down the foot well, and a ruddy great hole in boot where vents are, and the boot where the fuel pump goes, now all these i can deal with by welding or sealing where the join is.

how good are the door seals, can these be improved?

anything else worth sealing on the engine ( my main worry), do i need to seal the pipes that go to turbo from back of air box or would these be ok?

In a disco your getting water inside regardless of door seals, the panel gaps on discos are quite big, I'd focus on making the air intake water tight ,axle t box gear box breathers etc and keep electrical connections covered in wd40 my last trip to drumclog I had water over my steering wheel 3 months later my seats are still damp

If you're hell bent on wading then the best thing you can do with a Disco is to remove all the carpets and soundproofing.
Don't weld every single factory made hole up either, cos they're handy for drainage.

All carpets and sound roofing is out for now..ye I figured I'd get water ij just trying to stop most of other lol.

I dont think you can completely keep water out of even the best put together car, never mind a land rover so you have more chance of sealing your arsehole than making a discovery completely water tight. As mentioned above, keep the water out of the oily bits and help it get out of the cabin after a dunking.

Panel gaps and holes were of great importance to BMW when they purchased land rover.

On visiting the special vehicle department, a BMW engineer said, "ven ve test zer panel gaps ve place a cat inside zee car and if it iz dead in zer morning zen ze gaps are airtight and zay pass ze test".

A land rover engineered replied, "yeah boss we do the same and if the ****ing cat is still inside in the morning then our gaps are fine too".

Trust me, when land rover design stuff it very rarely keeps water out, even sunroofs lol

Have you extended your breathers?

there are some relays in the passenger footwell too which you might want to try and tuck up a bit higher

like someone has said extend your breathers and send a pipe upto the top of your snorkel from the manifold (from the breathers) and move the relays on the passenger footwell and alarm bits also some relays in the drivers kick well too.
and as far as water is concerned dont bother its gonna find a way to get in anyway you'll just end up chasing rainbows.

ye did the axle breathers today, got some "push" connectors and fitted to tbox and gbox as i couldnt find the location of them :S,

is there a breather on the tank (300tdi)

also would the exhuast need to be sealed or isa this not too much of an issue as it constantly blowig out?

yeah relays are getting moved too, im not bothered abouit abit of water, just dont want it upto the seats lol, so if i can slow it and not stop it then fine

Don't know about fuel tank on a 300 but the usual way of sealing the exhaust is to jam a potato in the end....

yu can also seal it by pouring half a gallon of oil into the intake manifold
