Hi again, Need help again !!
Right, so have replaced the head gasket and now going to fit the new water pump (from DMGRS as a kit with the Timing Belt & tensioner) but whilst the same overall shape, the new one is missing some of the metal support i.e. where the 'Pillar Bolt' fits. see attached photos

Also the vanes on the rear are smaller and number 7, whereas the original are larger and number 6. Have I got the wrong water pump or has the design changed? Anyone know??

is this any good

a list of all the water pumps available so u can compare it with the part number you've already got

I do know that on the 1.8 there are two different types of belt tensioner. One is called a manual and the other is an automatic tensioner. The difference other that the name and operation is the belt width. Looking at your comparison photos the two drive wheels look different sizes. Maybe you have the wrong pump for your engine. Just a thought.

Rimmers only list one water pump for the 1.8 through its life.

This was the response from DMGRS
"The waterpump you've had previously has an 'evaporation chamber' fitted - this hides small leaks by evaporating small amounts of stray coolant.

As you can imagine, on a K Series engine this is a very bad idea - it's important to be made aware of any coolant leaks as soon as they occur.

The pump you've received is a direct fit without the evaporation chamber, hence the different design. It's been a common topic of discussion in previous years on forums etc, to which I've had a lot of input (hence my stance on them being an awful idea).

Someone who worked with MGR once commented that it was a move made entirely to reduce warranty claims for leaking pumps."

Views/comments anyone.......

As I said David, just a thought. But Rimmers do list a different part number albeit one number out for the MGF/TF range even though they all look identical. I think the supplier should be asked why the difference.

The response from DMGRS is correct. Go ahead and fit the new pump and don't worry about it. I went through the exact same issue myself a while back, as for the number of vanes, how do you know the old one is correct since it has probably been replace before.

BTW a little smear of instant gasket in the gasket channel will help hold the rubber gasket in position while you fit it.
