G'day all, my water pump bearing is squeaking but it's fairly new and not loose. I purchased a new one. I see on the new one there is a hole into the inside of the bearing/shaft/housing. What is this hole for. I'm hoping it's there for heat expansion and/or lubricating the bearings...so I thought I would ask.

When the bearing fails water drips out of it.

Called a tell tale, same as the holes in the bottom of the timing chest and flywheel housing.

Yeah thankyou. Just hoping someone would say they have greased or oiled the bearings from that and it works. I guess I will try anyway as it can't hurt and I got a new water pump to change it anyway.
