ever since owning my td5 the water level has always sat 15/20mm below the cold level marker.i decided to fit a new radiator and water pump.it still sits below the cold level checked each time after standing over night.towing my caravan 278 miles on friday and a bit worried or is this the norm.

as long as theres plenty in expansion bottle and system has no air (remove bleed screw to check)stability isnt a bad sign

I have had my Discovery 2 for about 5 years now and the water coolant level has always dropped from 3/4 of the way up the plastic tank down to about 1/4 of the tank in about a couple of hundred miles. 4 years ago i did think about changing the black plastic filler cap in case that had something to do with it,But never got round to changing it.

You'll be telling us next you have no idea why your head gasket blew :rolleyes:

When I bought mine 3 years ago I thought the level was a little low and topped it up to the mark. Within the week it was an inch below so topped up again. The read that the level often is lower than the mark. So I left it to see. In three years it has always stayed at the same albeit lower level. So as far as I can tell there is no real level in aTD5. So as long as there is plenty of water in the header at the same level every time you look your OK.

Regards

My TD5 had similar "problems" to the above. Discovered ultimately the water pump was leaking. After changing it and the top hose the water level has remained as it should do, at the required water mark level in the reservoir. Level marks are there for a reason and if it drops down then you have a pressure/water leak.
