Water leaks!

Hi all,

I've just purchased a lovely '95 MY Vogue which will be my, ahem, daily driver. Overall, it's a fantastic example, except that it's got a fairly significant water leak into the passenger footwell. When it rains heavily, I can watch the water dripping down through the cardboard trim under the dash.

It's going into my local workshop for rectification this week, but does anyone have any suggestions of where this leak is emanating from?

Presumably a classic? I'd be checking the screws around the windscreen and filling with silicone.

If it is a P38 then first raise suspension to high,use axle stands, slide under and feel up the side of the bellhousing and you should find the A/C drains.rubber tears. Give them a squeeze and prepare for arms full of dirty water.After that check the sunroof drains are clear then, the pollen filter housing including the mounting screws are sealed.

Ooop's didnt wait for your reply. If it has A/C worth checking the drains.

well my son woks at special effects, and he can get a smoke machine ( I think) maybe hire one?/
 
Mine's a fair bit older but I've had a couple of water ingress issues over the years.
Usually best to remove the carpet etc in the footwell so you can see the bulkhead & have someone play a hosepipe on the car - as in simulating rain, not a full jet blast - or use a watering can whilst you are in the car looking at the suspect area. Mirrors can be handy to see into awkward areas.
Have a look at the passenger side of the bulkhead from inside the engine bay. You will see a rectangular metal plate fixed to the bulkhead. The seal on this can fail & water will run down inside the car. Sealed mine with silcone sealant.
Have a look for corrosion on the bulkhead - another source of leaks.
 
Thanks everyone for your thoughts. It's now with my workshop and the hose/watering cans are at the ready, so I'll keep you posted on the eventual cuplrit(s)...
