Hi all this is my first post in the Discovery section I usually post in Defender section. My daughter bought a Discovery 2 2002 TD5 Auto it’s a very nice Disco only 93kmiles two weeks ago and today she phoned saying she’s got water coming in on roof lining above drivers door I suspect it might be the sunroof just looking for confirmation of this or pointers what it could be if not. I’ve attached a picture.
Thanks

Sunroof seal and drains, alpine lights, roof bars, front corner of gutter at windscreen and the windscreen seal.

All been done before on here and there are a few how to's about. Just take the time to remove roof and check all points. DO not forget to remove sunroof completely and seal to the outside of the roof as well.

Cheers

I have water coming in from somewhere around the bottom of the a pillar right in the top corner behind the glovebox. I’m just wandering of there is a manual for this aswell? Cheers
Sorry I didn't realise you were referring to a water leak  I have exactly the same problem, see picture, the water is running down & hitting the top 13mm headed bolt then onto the one below done the side of the dashboard bracket. I'm sure it's coming down the A pillar from the roof gutter which I have now resealed with sikaflex 221 as the original stuff had cracked & crumbled. I have read on hear that the sunroof drain pipes finish about half way down the pillar so if the gutter sealing doesn't work I'm going to replace the drain tubes with longer items.

This is exactly what mine is doing I’m trying to get it sorted before winter properly sets in, I will have to try re sealing the gutter and if that doesn’t work it might be time to bite the bullet and pull the dash out

Not to sure if this is relevant to your vehicle being mine is a early mk1 Discovery but I found a grommet
Missing halfway up the A pillar behind the front wing, any water running down the pillar could find itself inside the
A pillar and leak inside the car, especially in my case as the drain at the bottom of the pillar was blocked,

Yeah do the gutter first. As I said I think The Mad Hat Man on here said about the sunroof drain tubes only finishing half way down the pillar. As my gutter is sealed but not tested with water yet if you can hang on a day I'll let you know if it's cured my leak.

Hi, I'll have a look for a grommet I don't suppose you have a picture of it or a rough diagram, can you see it just ny shining a torch down that area ? There are the two unplugged 8mm threaded holes see pic. but it's coming in higher up than those.

I doubt it’s relevant, the hole isn’t there in my 300 series and so definitely not with a disco 2.

As u say there is a hole at the base of the ‘A’ pillar which will, if water enters the sunroof frame drain it will show running out (if not blocked with mud).
Possibly the hole in your vehicle was for the coax feed from the wing mounted antenna to the head unit in the 200 series.

No the hole for the aerial lead goes through the inner wing and comes out to the rear of the brake pedal,

Hi pal, I’ve had the wing off and my disco 2 doesn’t have that hole but thanks for suggesting

I will wait and see how you get on, I don’t think it will be the sunroof drain as mine were blocked and sending compressed air down them blew mud and water out just above the mud flap on front n/s

Hi, I've poured 3 watering cans of water over the n/s gutter, checking inside between each one & didn't have any water trickling down where it did be so hopefully the gutter sealing has cured that but the bad news is I noticed water dripping off the heater box, doh. It is dripping from the top of the heater box and not from the joint, I knew I should have sealed round the intake! :( I'll have to take the scuttle panel off again . I did notice water around that unplugged 8mm threaded hole so I'm going to put a couple of bolts with sealer in those. The sunroof drains, I think the Mad Hat Man was referring to them being too short & possibly the water draining down them was finding its way through any dodgy sealing around the A pillar area. Hope this helps & I'll keep you updated.
