hi, i have a 1998 p38 and when i get in the car in the morning the windows are misted up, there is a small leak from the pipe that connects to the heater box on the drivers side, its dripping from outside the cab from what looks like a drain. the grommit where the pipe connects to the heater matrix is bone dry. the water does go down but very little compared to the amount that is dripping from this pipe. i would like to know if this is the heater matrix or anything else such as air con or maybe water holding somewhere, if the matrix does need changing will i need to remove the dash?
any help is much appreciated

Hi rickymac,

If the heater matrix o-rings are gone you should definately be able to smell the coolant inside, as well as seeing a drop in coolant level.

Check both the air con drain plugs and the sunroof drain plugs...air con drain is either side of gearbox bellhousing and the sunroof drains are in the front wings forward of the door hinges. Give em a squeeze and clear any gunk out.

yea great so the dripping is from the air con drain beside the bellhousing, is this normall? the air con switch on the dash reads "air con off" if i press the switch and the led comes on does this mean the air con is on or off? i cant understand it. if the air con is on when the led is not lit this would explain the heavy fuel consumption, water dripping an the water dripping is not frequent :s

Air con is on as standard, the switch is to turn it off...so when the switch is lit, the air con is off.
I don't use the air con on mine much anyway and it needs some attention, so don't know how much fluid is normal. I've seen quite a few posts about them blocking and overflowing so I guess it's not out of the ordinary.

Definately worth checking ur sunroof drains as well, I think due to their location they're a lot more likely to get gunked up over time.

great. thanks jd, been driving around thinkin it was a bit heavier than i thought. explains why now haha. cheers for your help :)
