P38A Water in the footwell - both sides

I have mentioned many times that the plastic rivnuts for the self tappers (as per Keith) loose their foam seals and let copious amounts of water in. Just pop them out and dab silicone on the flange, when you put the screws back in give them a dab too, they sometimes crack due to the wrong screws being used. The main offenders are the ones over the cabin filters, I did all of them to make sure. The old girl hasn't had water in since (6yrs now), it did have huge puddles before that and I checked everything else suggested but these little buggers let a large amount of water in, very bad design!
This is where all my footwell water was coming from. I took the fan housings out and sealed with Sikaflex as a precaution, but it was pouring in through the rivnuts. I'd check this first.

The headlining water was coming in through the windscreen bonding. Sikaflex sorted that too.

Thanks for the feedback. I also wanted to order sika now. May I ask what number you used?
I wanted to buy Sika 529. Or does 522 fit better?
Thank you

this is what it looks like on the passenger side. i'm relieved.
The test was as follows. First pour water in areas above the car - no water in the car. Then roof - no water... Finally, of course, at full strength - no water in the footwell. No drops of water on the bodywork - everything dry.
Then I realised that the water must be coming from underneath - it's actually obvious when you see the photos.
It's probably a gradual process over the years - that's why I didn't notice anything and that's why there's so much rust in those places.

The carpet (marked in yellow) is dry - so nothing is coming from above. The area marked in red is the wettest. The water then spreads downwards - marked in blue.

It is almost identical on the driver's side.

What do you think? Is the theory valid?

The first thing I'm going to do is dry the carpets - with a heater.
Then sand everything down from underneath and seal with underbody protection. Then sand and seal everything on the inside.

Thanks!!!

...ok, I'm a little disappointed.
I derusted everything, neutralized rust and painted it.
the carpets were dry.
now the car has been standing in the rain for 2 days - without moving it and the carpet on the driver's side is wet again.
Everything is dry on the passenger side.
Now I have found out where the water is coming from - see photo.
It's coming from the top.
Can anyone tell me from the photo where exactly? Thank you!

Started the extension today. The paneling is off.
It was very difficult as all the screws are totally rusted. 2 were also torn off. I drilled them out.
At this point the question: what are these screws and where can I look and buy them?

The holder of the windshield wiper was also rusted. I removed the rust with a brush and treated it with anti-rust.

I'll continue on Monday - will report back. Thank you!

Make sure you seal the underside of the rivnuts with silicone, a major area of water ingress, mainly over the pollen filters. Put a dab on the new screws too, they sometimes split open, I replaced all of mine, I bought a big pack of black self tappers in Halfrauds
