Hi all. I have been getting water in my 1999 TD5. I have found it under the front footwells and have had it dripping from the front head lining. I thought it was coming from the sun roofs and today i removed all the lining expecting blocked drains or something but no, all seams fine. I lifted the carpet in the foot wells to fined socking wet but cant trace were its coming in. When its wet weather all hell lets loose and the electrics go mad, no central locking, no indicators and other strange goings on. Anyone got any idias apart from scrapping the thing. I will listen to anyone. HELP!!!

I have a similar problem but only drivers side footwell damn if I can find it either. It happens when parked in the drive so would have thought it would be easy to find

Welcome to your Defender.........

Footwells - maybe seam rusted through from wheel arch - new panels available from Paddocks etc. (Mine long overdue on 2000 TD5)

Screen bottom hinge 'seal' - I believe that was named by someone with a sense of humour.....

Screen 'hinges' - meant to have rubber 'seals' behind them, which don't work anyway.......

Alpine roof window 'seals' - see above....... water then runs along inner gutter (ever wondered why they thought that was needed?) and drips off the screen end onto floor/passenger/important papers on the seat.....

Get wellies, and line the floor with newspaper under the mats and chuck it every few days/weeks/when you remember it because it smells like old socks in there......

Enjoy! A

It may sound like a silly question, but what sort of vehicle is your TD5 engine in? Disco or Defender? If a Defender, what body type? SW/Hardtop or pickup? They all leak in different places, and some leaks are easier to fix than others.

I assumed it was a Disco, if only because everybody knows Fenders leak straight from the factory, and the OP sounded a bit surprised, but could very well be wrong though.:confused::D:D

Sorry folks . The vehicle in question is a 1999 Landrover Discovery TD5, And to top it all it now has a power stearing hose split!!!!. Give me some dinomite and i blow it to bits .

Thanks Henry. Silly, but i hadnt thought of top corners of windscreen.

I had the headliner and roofs out of mine and rebonded them to the roof plus the roof bars,to say I was a little ****ed when it still leaked like a sieve is an understatement,it was the top screen corners on mine, took out the HK head unit too before I managed to sort it :)

I to have taken head lineing out, not an easy task but found all o.k. I have a lot of water under front foot well carpets. Now i think about it i had a new screen fitted about a year ago, seem to get a lot of wind noise since. I think i will go and have a word with my local screen fitters!!!

Aye,definitely get the screen checked out,I never did find out exactly where mine let water in as I sealed right across the top and down both sides, but it did cure it.
Replied to your pm btw;)

I have a Defender 90. 1994 year model. no sunroof. No Alpine windows. The water sheets off the roof and out through the iterior light fitting.
Yes, the roof may leak a little but the water showers off of the roof.
Easy answer. It's simple. Condensation.
Take the headliner out and just leave the car for a few days in the cold weather. The roof will be totally covered in it.
It really needs to have a sound deadener either of the foam or felt style glued in there.
