Water in diesel fuel tank?

My 110's fuel tank has a slight leak, I'll be getting a new one in the new year. In the mean time to stop the diesel staining the driveway I have placed a container underneath. This container is now filling with diesel (funny that!) and I thought about emptying it into my 20l jerrycan.

The thing is there is also rainwater in the container now. Not a lot, its probably 1part water, 50parts diesel. My question is: can I pour this diesel/water solution back into my fuel tank? (obviously filtering it for leaves/dirt/grime.) and not cause damage to the landy? Or will the water ruin my day?

I would say discard it in a fire, but you could siphon off most of the diesel as the water will be trapped underneath, but you're going to end up wasting quite a bit of diesel anyway to be certain of not getting water in your tank.

Water in Diesel tank can be expensive depending on which engine you have. 200TDi is OK with a bit of water as it splits in fuel filter and you can open the drain plug to remove it. 300TDi is not quite so good and first failure is main IP at £800 plus VAT and fitting. TD5, remortgage (if you still can)...

Its an '86 110 2.5 N/A (forgive my ignorance, I don't know if this has a more descriptive name)

But from the jist of your post I guess its just not a good idea in any case.

either replace it or use some of this to stop the leak untill you do

and dont forget to replace the tank cos you'll get no sympathy if you come back in 3 months moaning that yer only getting 6 MPG

Thats about as good as you can get it, 12J is the only addition you could make, and 19J would be the turbo version.
