Warranty Question

Hi,
I looked for a sticky on this subject and couldn't find one or find threads in date order, so here goes.

I have a 2016 D4 Graphite with 41,000 miles, it has a full dealer service and will continue to have one.

The question is, should I buy the Land Rover extended warranty for £1288 for one year, costs limited to value of vehicle.

OR should I go with MotorEasy for about £2400 for 3 years on their 'A' policy?

Given the complexity of these cars I think an extended warranty is required. The cars a keeper, I love it.

Do some research, I believe the LR warranty is not in fact a LR own warranty, but is provided by a third party and apparently they do not cover the crank problem as it is a known issue, the same issue LR deny exists!
Try the D3Forum for more up to date info, join and try a search as theres loads of info on there.

If you can, it is the insurance cover on the engine that will give most peace of mind !

Definitely read the terms and conditions between the two policies. I had a warranty on my Audi a few years ago which developed faults in the warranty period but the company refused to pay for repairs as it classed failures as “sudden and unexpected “ or similar to qualify for them to cover the cost. Even there, there was a list of exemptions. Of note, it wasn’t either of the companies you mention, but remember that warranty companies are there to make money...

Get a warranty that covers crankshaft failure, which is pretty common on this engine.

Or controversial option would be to move it on to someone else before the crank let’s go and let someone else worry about the warranty……

The D4 isn't a cheap vehicle to own. It's full of expensive parts, regardless of age. I would follow the advice above to ask on the disco3 forum (they do D4's anorl) to see what peeps who have experienced using the warranty, think of it. The detail of what it covers and when, is the big problem. Like a bearing making a rumble or needing to fail completely, to be able to claim. That sort of this. They do have a lot of TDV6 engine failures (crank seize and snap) but not sure on what the percentage of vehicles have had this happen, and therefore the risk.

Another option is to save 1,000 sovs per year and put it to one side for when things go wrong.

Or sell it and get a FL2.

This appears to be the popular choice. A friend had one and was advised by a main dealer service advisor to do just that...

He was told it was £16k for a replacement engine fitted by JLR.

I always remember what one guy wrote on the D3 forum and it was, driving the d4 was like sitting on a hand grenade with the pin pulled wondering when it was going to blow!

Brilliant cars, the only thing I would want warranty cover on is the engine, the rest if you cannot afford to repair it then you cannot afford to run the car.
