What is the troubs with yours.Or you buy mine for 1200 quid and spend 2k on sorting it.
If you can spanner yourself, it's a good car for the price.

Test book certainty can.A mate boughtaP38 and had some work done by a local Indy who asked me if he liked the car when I told him he loved it he said then I'll leave it up to you wether you tell him or not that it's had 60 k knocked off the mileage.I never did, even when he sh1t on me from a great height.Do you think a diagnostic tool would be able to verify the mileage?
I thought that the indicated mileage always showed the greater of what was stored in the cluster and becm.Test book certainty can.A mate boughtaP38 and had some work done by a local Indy who asked me if he liked the car when I told him he loved it he said then I'll leave it up to you wether you tell him or not that it's had 60 k knocked off the mileage.I never did, even when he sh1t on me from a great height.

In other words, if you fit a 120k cluster to a 60k car then it would show 120k.
Conversely, fitting a 120k becm to a car on 60k and the readout will also be 120k.
Not sure how he could tell what the actual mileage was
I am going to have a look at it tomorrow, give it a drive and see what is what. I am worried about the cylinder liners, but don't suppose there is much I can do about that until trouble does or does not show. That is correct as from what I know (but I know ****). Mileage can be sorted/adjusted on a P38 if you are that way inclined but it isn’t easy(ish). L322 don’t know. But it will be stored so is available to view somehow.
Our IIDGap shows mileage . (Don’t take much notice ) but do know it shows mileage with any fault.

Thank you.Wouldn't worry about liners on an L322, that was the rover v8.
BMW is timing chain tensioner and vanos seals.
Jag is pretty bombproof as long as it's been regularly serviced
Look at the rear arches and sills, from underneath they rot badly there.
Open the lhs rear cubby in the boot and look for signs of damp. If any, walk away.
I'm sure others will pitch in.

Anything you can tell me to look for in a 4.4 L322? I will look for oil leaks at the front, oil traces in the coolant. smoke from the exhaust. air suspension works, all the gadgety bits work, autobox changing smoothly. Correct number of wheels, ashtrays are empty etc. After the debacle of my XF though I am a bit nervous of making another great F...foul up
Should have said this is a 2002 for £4450
Now for something a little different.
2.5 HSE D. 144K miles but one owner and a very good service record.
MOT until Feb 2021
Slow and steady wins the race.
Could be an option to the 4.4 petrol. ( This would be my wife's option) but I could get use to the pedestrian performance.
Thank you. It may well be that I have to go the the hell hole known as London which is apparently a ULEZ.Firstly forget the liner issue, that’s for us P38 owners.
If everything works it’s good but don’t forget the suspension programs, you probably won’t see any difference but it could chuck up a bleep.
Don’t forget Sport mode.
Apparently wheel arch rust is common so a good check there and definitely look in the rear cubbies (under the plastic tray) and in the spare wheel well for any water tracks.
As much as We love the P38, for us stay away from the diesel, some love them but I can’t go near it, stick with what you want your, it also depends where/how often you may dip in the new (LUEZ or whatever the **** it’s called)

???no point getting a 4x4 Unless it’s towing performance or something.

Maybe some glitter
