morning everyone. I've just bought myself a 53 plate Disco 2 TD5 ES and I'm chuffed to bits with it. My last TD5 caught fire so I'm glad to be back!
However, in the past couple of days it's started showing a couple of faults.
It's had a coilover conversion on the suspension but I had the warning light for the self levelling suspension come on and sometimes when I park it makes a whooshing sound like air is being vented. Also yesterday the orange diff lock warning light came on when I was just driving along normal roads. Hadn't touched the transfer box. Tried going through the gears, reversing etc but it stayed on. Drove completely normally. If anyone can shed any light on either of these issues I'd be grateful!

Hi

Do you know if the change to springs is an old change or just done? Sounds like the air side of the suspension has not been turned off in hte Brains, may need someone with a diagnostics to go through it and switch it off.

Ref the CDL light, I have come across ref that this is a light bulb failure somewhere on the vehicle, might be worth checking ALL the bulbs to see if anything shows up , or not as the case may be.

Cheers

Hi thanks so much for replying. I don't know how long ago the conversion was done. I can go back through the receipts to find out though.

I'll check all the lights today. Typical neither of these problems showed up on the test drive!!!!

Does the car actually have difflock, i.e. is it marked as such on the transfer box gearknob (not the sticker in front of it)?
If it does, it might be a faulty 'difflock engaged' switch on the transfer box. In either case it might also be a chaffed wiring loom shorting to ground and turning the light on, but I'd have thought that would be more intermittent.

Re air suspension (or not), can you hear a compressor running at all? You should hear a droning sound, running in bursts of a second or so if it's still enabled.

Hi yes it does have diff lock - marked on the gear knob and you can put it in. This morning we tried driving slowly forwards and in reverse to unwind it if that was the cause and up through the all the gears in both high and low but the light is still on.

As per neilly's suggestion I've checked all the lights and the only one that isn't working is the front interior courtesy light but I doubt that's the cause so it sounds like it is a fault with the switch so we will investigate that further.

With the air compressor there when it makes the "jetting noise" there is definitely a motor/pump sound when it does it. It usually does around 3 short bursts and then stops so I'm guessing it's an incomplete conversion.

Thanks again for the replies. So helpful!!

Untill you get to a tester to disable the SLS remove fusible link FL9 and relay R5 from engine bay fusebox cos it seems that all the SLS hardware was left in place and as long as the system is not disabled it will cause parasitic battery drain

are you sure you identified well that warning light cos the diff-lock one should be red not orange and i've seen cases when it was confused with the transmission temp warning

Thank you! I will definitely disconnect the fuse and relay - the last thing I want is a flat battery!
I will try to attach a photo of the warning light. I can't actually find it in my owners handbook and it's been about 10 years since I last had a Disco with diff lock so I can't remember if it used to come on when it was engaged!

Sorry, just realised your's is facelift so my mistake, on facelifts is amber... it might be a problem with the diff-lock switch or it's circuit on the transfer case and even if the diff is not physically locked the signal is like it is, normally the switch simply closes to earth to trigger the warning so to rule it out you'll have to reach to it and unplug it then if the warning rests you know the switch is at fault but if it comes back it's a wiring issue... anyway as long as the warning is on the ABS system is on a default and the traction controll is inhibited, the switch is pointed in the pic

Thanks for that. We've disconnected the relay and fuse. Now the self-levelling indicator lamp is on on the dashboard? Normal right?

Still got diff lock light on so dad is going to have a go at disassembling tomorrow!!
