try a TTI, TCB-550. about £65, add external speaker, and a good quality mag mount ariel, i use one in my truck....it works!!
::::: TTI :::::
google cdi truck stop, there you
should find a supplier
hope this helps you out, rgs, S13.

search the forum, not long ago there was a thread about this with **** loads of info.

go on cb4x4 website, there's loads of packages in there with loads of explanation of what each has....

with that budget you can get the whole thing, cb, aerial, mount, loads of stuff. I got a midland 78 from cb4x4 and its fokin brilliant.

im actually giving too much information out, use the search button

Are these only any good if you go out in convoy a lot? Or can you use them to easily have a social chat with truckers and/or taxi drivers?

i got this 1

[ame=http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B00140SYK8/ref=oss_product]TTI TCB-770 Multi-Standard Mobile CB Radio: Amazon.co.uk: Electronics[/ame]

I have a midland CB I got fro the last LR show and when it works, it's great, but I had to have it fixed after the first time I went out because the vibrations broke the screen. To their credit, they fixed it for free and sent it back within a week. The speaker is nice and load and clear and the mic has channel and scan buttons on it. Mine could have just been a faulty one so it's up to you whether you get midland or not. I think it cost about £65 but that was at the show and on the condition I bought some other kit from them too. It's from thunderpole.

In my yoof we had cb's fitted to our cars as the thing to do at the time ( this was well before mobiles! ) and we used to chat to truckers and each other ( was next to the A1...when it had roundabouts anorl! ).

I'm interested in the etiquette of it all, has it changed much? We could have a right giggle with some folk back then and we got some right weirdos, but no matter where we were, we always had it on and listened out to who was about and chatted ****e most of the time, a fair few people back then had them ( again lack of other mobile communication )

Do many of you use it everyday? or is it just for P&P and laning trips?

If you get a maycom get the green screened one, the early clear screened one like what I have use a battery to store Memory which over time corrode and kill the unit, the newer ones use capacitors, also as nice as they look I had two units which both had lazy lights so make sure this problem isn't a problem :) other than that for a futuristic look and a great overall rig maycom does it for me,
My personal fave is an old skool rotel 230/240 harrier CBx or a amstrad 901 with Roger bleep

Everyday mon, Roger that rubber dick ;-) I use min for work I used to spend hundreds when I were at school regularly stayin up till 2 int morning waffling to my mates, winding up 'greasy truckers' and stokeys, then they seemed to die a death for about 5/6 years cos of 'sunspots' givin a ****e load of interference, seemed to have bounced back a bit cos of free license now (not that most ppl payed it before?!!??) still not as good as it was tho

I dont think it was sun spots mate ......as truckers still use them all the time, think you'll find it was the advent of the mobile phone that realy knocked them for six, I used to have one in the AM days, went to FM when it went legal, but it then started to die, think it was that bandit and the smokeys bad boy thing that mad it popular and the fact it started off illegal, things are never as much fun when the legal plus the cost of the liecence.

Now you dont need a liecene great news for people like us -off roaders.

they will never come back due to the limitations.
