Here's a few pics of my one-piece sump guard.
It's from a BMW but I was toying with the idea of modifying it to fit the Freelander
Very simple 4 bolt fitting.
Note the slight lip at the rear.
It's seen a lot of miles (and kilometres) on some amazing tracks has this one.
The drain-plug opening was more trouble than it was worth.
I could drain the sump with the guard on allright - but I had to regularly drop it to clear out the scooped up mud and debris.
Originally there was a 25mm thick closed-cell foam pad between the guard and the sump - I removed it to allow easier power washing out the trapped mud.
Is this the stye of guard you guys were thinking of making?

Pretty much. So it fits the alloy frame nicely and can be bolted or welded as seen fit! Plus bolts under the subframe.
Good stuff I think a mock up of a sump guard may be in order at the weekend!
