Most folk seem to report Bilsteins are too harsh (Henry excepted), but probably depends on the kind of conditions you are going to drive. My Monroe's work well, gas filled, black. I definitely wdn't describe them as harsh (tho my reference for harsh is a Defender, using TF shocks)

He's in the driving seat. The rear seat is a different experience. I found Terrafirma very harsh in the front. Britpart fell apart, least said there the better. Not tried Bilstein or Monroe. The missus thinks Boge is bouncy in the back but I like them from the front seat!
 
Having trawled the threads on this I did see someone suggest firming up the rear and leaving the front as is - which fits with Grr's wife's experience and makes sense to me. I certainly wdn't want firmer at the front
