wading and sealant

Evening All

so i want to prepare my landy for wading, she already has a snorkel, but from my research and knowledge of the her past use, it was for desert conditions not wading, so not sealed.

i know i need to take it off and seal the pipes ect. Is there are a correct sealant to use, or any recommendation/ avoidances i should be aware of?

I am also planning on fitting this kit,

and running the lines up the side of the snorkel, maybe all contained in a single bit of tubing to keep it neat.

is there anything in particular that i have missed or you think needs doing?

i use tiger seal and make sure everything is clean before applying, the make sure all you connectors are tight and personally i don't start the engine until the sealant is dry just to be on the safe side..

been up to my bollocks in water and the engine still runs sweet.

Sounds good, thanks. one more thing, will that sealant also work to seal the ECU box between the front seats? the seal was broken at some point and not redone. or maybe use something not as strong?

tiger seal (pu sealent) is used to stick on car body panels, like skirts/ rear spolier.. it's can be a bugger to get off

Yep i'd go with a silicon sealant as above tiger seal is more used for bonding.If like me you have to take the snorkel pipe of to change the air filter tiger seal would make it a bitch of a job.

just don't get any on the body panels if you want to paint it in the future

First time i put my snorkel on i got it everywhere.... Wouldnt come off like you said..

I have since had it apart, cut it away, don't the repair panels on my 90 and tiger sealed it all back together, sanded it down and will paint my baby this coming spring.

pu is alright for paint, but make sure you go over bits where silicon went, it'll cause the paint to fisheye if it isn't all removed

Will rub it down to metal when the time comes if needs be then etch primer it.

It aint a job I'm looking forward to tbh

it's all in the prep, like 90%. if you prep it well then painting is the easy bit

Believe it or not the ecu is open to the elements and is not waterproof, serious guys buy an ecu extension loom and fit it up near the roof

not really too sure about most defenders, as this is my first and its ex mod, but the box the ecu is mounted in is definitely sealed. i just need to reseal the lid and it should be watertight.

If it's a td5 ECU is usually under drivers seat and not sealed.

No its a 300tdi, and its between the seats, defiantly sealed. The inside of the box is spotless.

The mod ones are in a little black box up a bit higher so they can wade if I'm thinking of the right box, going to be tackling all my leaks in the summer so cheers for the helpful hints!

Roger! Like putting lipstick on a pig, iv read the weather seals for the bottom of the doors are a lot better on the newer defenders, my mats are wet in the lightest drizzle!
