the vvc inlets are also very cheap! people pretty much give them away.

This is true. Although the 52mm throttle body from the 160 VVC does seem to command far higher prices than it's actually worth in terms of power.

i put one of those on mine ... but only because i had one kicking about in the garage!

Easier solution is the camshafts replaced with upgraded lift order an extra 25 hp:cool:
Land Rover Freelander 1 Camshaft +25BHP - 1.8 Twin Cam +25BHP

I seriously doubt that swapping the cams on an otherwise standard 118 bhp, 1.8 K series will add 25 bhp. If it did, all the MGF boys would be doing it.
The MGF 135 has very long duration cams, head porting much better than standard. It also has better pistons that can take being revved to the 7000+ rpm required to make the extra power.
On the Freelander 1.8 engine simply won't stay in one piece at 7K + rpm, which is what would be required with its limited breathing capacity.
Even the first generation VVC only makes 143 bhp at 7100 rpm
This engine has everything needed to do it too. The standard Freelander 1.8 doesn't.

isnt there a supercharger kit for the mgf too.... mind who's gonna blow £4k on a freelander!!!

who would blow £4k on a mg for that matter...

I've got a 52mm TB on my VVC MGF. I like the improved throttle response. Sadly the 52mm TB makes no extra power on that engine.
The cold air pickup i've fitted made an astonishing 15 bhp!!

I'd like to fit the KV6 to an MGF. Now that would make an interesting car.

There's a T16 turbo converted f/tf on one of the forums. It was a very tight squeeze fitting that In, there also a rover coupe with a kv6 fitted which is tight again but done so well it looks factory fitted.

Interesting, have you any info on this (maybe its a kept secret)

No secret at all.
The MGF uses an engine bay pick up pipe to feed the engine. This costs lots of power.
I simply removed the pipe between the filter housing and resonator, then extended the filter pick up to the left hand sill vent. The engine can only breath are from the outside world. This makes a massive difference to the power.

there was (maybe still is?) someone doing a kit for em a while back. Im sure it was called something gay like the cheetah or something

Thanks :) useful to know it is just a re-route of the intake without doing away with the airbox, I was thinking you may have a vader kit?

I've got a standard 160 Bhp VVC airbox and standard filter on my VVC F It is larger than the 143 Bhp airbox but the cold air pickup power increase was using the 143 box.
I've also fitted the 160 head and 52mm throttle body. My F now makes 170+ Bhp at a lofty 7100 rpm!

Impressive, I feel some fettling with the F coming on ;) pickup is always quicker on cool days

I have always said that the 1.8 k-series (in all its forms) is a marvel to drive and to work on

If you look at where the intake pipe is located, you will see why it's faster on cool days. Don't forget that the F doesn't get its engine bay cooled by a rush of cold air. This is why it has an engine bay fan. Which is useless by the way.
Definitely move the pipe to the sill intake, it makes a huge difference.
