Hi People
My 2005 Range Rover SE has developed a Sat Nav problem and it's driving me to distraction. It simply reads "Voice Guidance not available in this area"...............This "area" is all over the country by the way. The destination can be selected and the volume setting is 'good". I've had the old girl for 12 years now, and she's been as good as any new one, Reliable is her name and I'm not used to problems with her. I've even given her two overcoats (wraps) as her body is all good and she looked smart in metallic gold for a couple of years and now even better in her solid purple. Alas I have done all I can to bring the voice guidance back into being but I've failed in my tasks and all I seem to get from 'Experts' is "OH the voice control is .........." but I have started to think that everybody that tries to help has failed to read my request properly as I have never once asked for help with any voice control and it is a 2005 model (hint ---- computer screens?) The voice guidance notification came on when I was travelling to Heathrow in April of last year and comes on as a notification each time I select a destination. I can select a post code or address to go to and the system locates where it is heading but .........no voice guidance........I am so looking forward to treating someone who gives me a solution to this.

Does the radio work? Does the car indicator move on the map as you progress towards your destination?
My first check would be for damp in the nearside rear quarter.

Well, voice guidance runs from the Navigation DVD, which is processed by the Navigation unit in the NSR corner of the boot, so assuming you've tried the first point of call (battery disconnect/reconnect), I'd be checking the Navigation unit and the GVIF cable (pale blue connector) for water ingress and / or corrosion.
It's possible, but unlikely to be the DVD itself and given that you say it occurred mid-journey, it's unlikely to be a language / configuration mismatch - unless you're in the habit of changing system settings whilst your driving?.
Have you tried changing to a different language / voice? may be worth doing as a diagnostic step.
If OK, then it's back to a hardware issue with the Navigation unit - the good news is these old units can be picked up on fleabay for ~£50, just make sure it's from somewhere that accepts returns.

Thanks for the uptake info.......I'll set to it when I'm able to get about enough this week (leg injury) and I'll let you know how I get on.
