Hi all, I'm having a bit of a problem with my CD player--Visteon unit fitted to Discovery GS--2003. Music only playing from the R/H channel (can just about hear L/H channel playing if the balance control is turned fully to the left and the volume is turned up to max!--radio works ok though.
I have tried a CD lens cleaner disc and various music CD's (bought and home made)--no difference.
Now wish to remove the unit to have a good old gander at the internals/wiring connections etc. Have fabricated two removal keys from a metal coat hanger but the b----- thing won't budge (are special keys required for this unit? + is there an anti theft device fitted!).
If anyone has ever removed one of these units and can pass on the info' it will be gratefully received. I've had a search on the forum and the Rave w/shop manual, but found now't regarding the Visteon unit!
Yours in anticipation, John.

It will have an anti theft code.

Does it have four holes for radio removal?? Perhaps you need the genuine keys. (I have also removed with coat hanger wire / 4x small nails, but some can be fussy)

Regards,

Steve

Cheers G13SJC, have found radio code. Regarding the holes, on further inspection the holes are squared so as you say, i might need special keys.
Back to the drawing board!
Thanks,
John.

My LR radio has two holes on the front and it is removed with a hex key by turning out to release and in to tighten back up.

Hi,

The Visteon unit is held in by clips, not allen screws (as some earlier ones are) you can get it out without the special 'keys' (which are sold in the likes of Halfords etc)
I used two short lengths of electrical cable, the solid copper core type from 2.5mm twin & earth house cable, bent each length into a U shape, pushed into the holes on each side of the radio unit, and managed to gentle wiggle/pull the unit out !!

It sound like you may simply have a loose connection on the speaker wire . . have you also checked the connections at the speaker ??? they are prone to damp/dirt being in the doors !!!

Hi Bolter, my radio has four holes on the front and when the home made keys are inserted they seem to come into contact with the side locks, but the unit will not budge at all! (even tried pulling with pliers!).I'm just wondering if the radio is fastened at the back as well. I have come across this before!
Will do some more homework.
Regards
John.

Cheers Disco Steve, you've just answered my query regarding whether the visteon unit is anchored at the back.
The keys i made sound very similar to yours, i'm probably not trying hard enough!
Regarding the speaker connections--the radio works perfectly on both channels with sound coming out of all the speakers, it's just the CD playback.
If i can't find the fault, i'll just stick to using my ipod and FM transmittter (not as good as CD'S though!).
Regards,
John.
