hiya

yeh i know need to get out more

im a former gas, oil heating engineer and still have my combustion analiser which i useto use on oil and gas boilers which will give me a full combsution read out and print out etc

i know that gas oil or red diesel has a viscuosity of 35 and was wondering how close the diesel is that i fill up from the local station is

the analiser ive got if fully calibrated etc and as ive got a synergy box etc would be nice to also see how the readings change and also without it

i know its sad and i need to get out more but is just a small experiment i wish to do

thks guys and please dont send the straight jackets round, lolol still at this rate of thinking may need a spell in a nice padded cell, lolol

Could you do a comparison between the cheapy Tesco diesel and the latest Shell V-Power with extra Nitrogen?

I still haven't worked out how they add the nitrogen and what good, if any, it does.

As for the padded-cell idea ...

..... after I have lined up the centre caps on my alloy wheels at 90degrees to the valves, and fitted the spare wheel with the valve at the top (OCD is a terrible thing) I find that a spell in a darkened room with soft music and a triple Vodka & Tonic works wonders. ;)

hi

thks, i would do the same thing with lining things up, even using cable ties i ensure there the same way round, etc so your not alone

will be interesting to see with the synergy box at its different settings does to the combustion inc without it connected and also with the maf compensator on and off

trying to find out why ive got very low mpg and determined to find out why

would be alot easier the scangauge would work with mine but as mines a 2002 pre obd 2 compliant dont wish to spend out on something that may not work

as if it did would make life alot easier etc

thks again and will report back as i do different combustion tests

Diesel is undyed Gas oil without the chemical marker. Gas oil/Diesel is 35 Centistokes and Kero is 28. Gas oil and Diesel have anti static additive included but Gas oil doesn't usually have the same cold plugging point as Diesel (anti waxing additive).

ah bless u, so they just put the red dye into gas oil for the vat

i know some people get caught putting red diesel in there cars, but i now know i can set my analiser to heavy oil

great, will put up the read out i get,

yes i know sad and need to get out more, lolol

this low mpg is killing me and now along with having to get my rear suspension and new brake lines feeling the pinch

but wouldnt change my freelander for anything else, well apart from a fl 2

thks so much

hiya

plan on doing them this week, just couldnt see any reason why my boiler analiser that already reads oil boilers couldnt also do the same with reading it coming from a car, will also do a print out and put all the readings on here as i imagine i will need help working out what all the other ones mean

will report back for you

The boiler analyze will work fine. I use one on petrol engines to check the ECU baseline fueling before the engine gets a proper dyno calibration and before my MG and Freelander V6 Mot's so I don't get any surprises.

thks for that, ive got a kane, which also has the bluetooth etc built in

cost me alot of money and would be nice to put it to good use

willl be interesting to see the results etc will do it before i service the car and replace some bits and will be great to see if i can improve the mpg

Duty rates are considerably higher for Diesel at 58 p per litre compared to 11 p per litre for gas oil. Vat is, or was 3 years ago, only 5% compared to the usual rate on Diesel. You can remove the dye by using fullers earth to filter it, also some use acid, but you can't remove the marker (coumarin and quinizarin). Had to google for the markers as now added at the Refinery and not at the distribution terminals (for obvious reasons).

The "Boys from the Old Brigade" on the border between N & S Ireland seem to have the "Washing" process down to a "T" with Laundered diesel being a major problem for the Revenue both sides of the border-they are losing a fortune in lost taxes. There is a major problem caused environmentally with tons of highly toxic acid based waste being dumped or buried in fields and by the side of the roads :eek::eek:.

I must say though that in the past year of being back in the U.K. that although I have seen a few Ministry check points pulling trucks & vans over for tank dips amongst other things, I have not seen any cars/4x4's pulled over.

Do you spend alot of time in Train stations Gary!!!!!!??????:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D
