I did some research on them as mine sounds like a jet at take off most of the time. The fluid normally sits in a reservoir at the back of the doofermebob but drains into the doofermebob when it's not spinning. Once it's spinning it's forced back into the reservoir and slows down. If I remember correctly there's a diaphram at the back of the reservoir connected to a bimetalic strip that forced the fluid into the doofermebob when it gets hot and returns when cooler.
