P38A Viscous fan repair

'afternoon all ...
a very knowledgable pal told me to try this viscous fan repair - and it worked!
Once you've removed the fan have a look at the wee coil in the centre at the front. It'll be rusty and that is the problem. It operates a valve which allows the fluid to move within the viscous drive and if it is siezed then won't work and the fan will be 'stuck on'. A clean up and a squirt of plusgas and a it'll free up. A few spins by hand and it'll go slack and turn freely.

Interesting, Don't know what the prices are for a Visco's fan for a P38 but for a Defender they are about £30. I think I would prefer price of mind and change it

Update - Naw, it didn't work

It locked up again. And by then had also tightened itself up again so was an absolute bugger to get undone...

Posting a question mark does not mean he will post anything more. He was just questioning the repair as described. Rightly in my view. If your viscous fan stops working replace it simple as that.
