I spent all of yesterday getting properly drenched on Bodmin Moor, in and out of the car in the pouring rain, water everywhere, it was as wet in the car as it was out, including all the dash etc.

I pretty much had the wipers on all day. I noted recently that fast wipe doesn't work (it used to work, but slower than normal wipe - and now nothing). I could do an individual intermittent wipe by pushing the stalk down and the wipers would automatically return to the right position.

One of my many forays into the ether yesterday, i must have nudged the stalk into the "up" position as when i got back in the car the wipers were stationery in the middle of the screen. I moved down to normal mode and all worked fine...except...

Now if i do intermittent wipe i have to hold the stalk down till the wipers are about in the right position then let go else they stop where i have let go...and also the same for the permanently on position - they stop where i switch them off.

Any ideas what's gone??? I suspect leaving them doing nothing for 5 mins in the "fast" position probably didn't help!

Sounds like some dodgy wiring on the park circuit - probably on the microswitch in the wiper park position. Or it could be a goosed indicator switch on the stalk, but unlikely.
 
I guess the second (unlikely) bit you mention is at the steering column, is the first bit (the park circuitry, microswitch etc) actually in the wiper motor housing in front of the passenger?
 
I believe it is, though when mine was playing up, I started dismantling the dash poked around a bit, couldn't be arsed to carry on as it was getting dark, and not only did me wipers start working again, but miracle of miracles, me heater was blowing warm air :eek:
 
Oh my god the same exact thing happened to me when i hold in the wand when the wipers are in the down position they stop. My mate found a lose connection and it fixed it for a while but they are broken now im afraid to turn them on.
 
it always amuses me that for such a massive, rugged, go-anywhere, sh*t hot 4x4, land rover decided to fit the most pathetic wind screen wipers to ever have been given to a vehicle. Mine stop in a different possition every time, sometimes even below the windscreen itself.
 
Might have ter do that Trewey, just took the whole lot apart at both ends (dash and motor) and can't see what the prob is - dunno why they're running extra slow when you put them on fast!

At least theyre working at the mo, so it's not desperate, but it's a bit of a drag not having a "quick hit" wipe!...(so to speak)!!!

I think it kind of adds to the ruggedness, it gives the impression that anything remotely not associated with driving off road and burning a lot of diesel, like electric windows, sunrooves, cup holders, cruise control etc and right down to Windscreen wipers, are a luxury for poofs and therefore if they must put them on, there's no point in doing them any more than the absolute bare minimum!

Yeah because when you drive fast through a load of mud and water and it comes up all over ye windscreen, I suppose only poofs would want to see where they were going!
 
doubt it, if it works OK on standard speed.
likely causes (in decending order of probability) -
park switch
wiring / connection
column switch
relay
motor
 
Have now convinced meself it
's the park switch, that would sound plausible! There is still 12v getting to the "permanent on" terminal, and the other 2 show the power they should when the steering column stalk is switched, is the park switch an easy fix or will it be a noo one???
