I hand painted the chassis on the l/h side. But got bored of doing that. So sprayed the right. So much better! Gets into all the little nooks and crannies better.

Vilgurl wants some side steps for it now as well, and one of those roof console things.

Need and MP3 playing stereo for it so she can play her crappy collection of music through the single speaker.

I ordered a new galvanised fuel filler neck for it, and ill crack on with repairing the holes in the rear chassis.
Got spring bracket on order too, a locating plate and retaining clamps.

Theres a stainless gear knob on the way,

and a side grill for the r/h wing. She wants a snorkel too but cant decide on which type. Obviously the wings are off a later version as the snorkel inlet will be on the wrong side, but I can sort the air feed pretty easy. Theres so much room in the engine bay on these n/a ones!

Right, thats the big hole around the spring mount fixed. Cut out a shape with the p. cutter and welded it on nice and tight like ;)

r/h rear spring is finally attached, and the chassis repaired on the damper mount.

Got the big hole to sort just above the damper mount next!

Still welding up the top side of the chassis rails,

Back on a contract now so not got the time during the week, will be cracking on this weekend. Want to get the axle and chassis welding all sorted. Tubular outriggers will be replaced too.
Got a new fuel filler hose, i didnt realise the filler necks were different on these early ones, and the old hose wasnt suitable to fit the defender filler. How annoying! Got her a locking fuel cap at the same time, at least itll be a bit more secure now.

Mrs vil has decided she wants it as a soft top after looking at a few. So the roofs coming off as well.

Well Ive just ordered a new fuel tank for it, the original was knackered. Its about to split i reckon judging by its condition, and theres no point in trying to keep something major that will leave us stranded at the roadside at some point.

New fuel tank arrived yesterday, i fitted the hoses and fuel sender last night so will be fitting it tomorrow when i get back from work.

R/h side chassis is all sorted and painted, both tubular outriggers replaced. Started work on the l/h back quarter chassis and found pretty much the same issues as there were on the r/h. So plenty more welding to do. (urgh getting bored of welding now i assure you!) At least the weather has turned so i can lie on the ground without getting soaked through.

All front lights are on now and working, rear lights to be replaced by more led sealed units this weekend.

Hoping (fingers crossed) to get it moveable this weekend.

surely an ideal opportunity for mrs Vil to learn to weld show her the side you've completed and say " 'ere, copy that"

It is her Landy after all :D

nah, because im crap at welding :p

I want to go on a proper welding course but can never find anywhere local.

r/h side looking a bit better! Still need to bolt on the seatbelt mounts to the outrigger and get the bush in the damper properly.

Did some more welding on the l/h side last night. God im getting bored of welding up holes!

I think when we have moved house and have a workshop big enough to fit it inside, I will fit a galv chassis. Sod doing that outside though.

Managed to nick one of the copper brake pipes with a grinder, more work! rah.
