Is there any footage on here of someone fitting the R5 Stat mod to a Freelander 1 please. Have seen one for a Rover 75 but can't find anything for the Fl1

I fitted one to my manual FL1 when I had it, I know Nodge fitted one to his Auto FL1 I used the Gates thermostat as I find those are more reliable, I have a spare hose in the shed somewhere with one already fitted into it, I will try and dig it out and also find the photo's I took when I did mine, is your TD4 a manual or Auto

Ok so I have found the photo's on my PC they were among the 4750 I have , when I did mine I sourced a spare top hose, I got that prepared so I could fit it right away, just to sane on time of fitting the inline stat to the hose on the day, which to be honest doe's not take more than 5 minutes.

here a few snap shots of what you need to do remembering my FL1 was a manual, you need to remove the air intake from the engine, along with the hose that fits to the EGR, then remove the manifold and EGR in one piece, this will give you the access you need to cut/file through the metal band holding the top hose to the engine Y piece.
Cover up any electrics below the hose alternator etc, have a funnel fitting into a bottle/ or a plastic tray ready to catch the coolant you will lose, once you have the top hose off fit the gates thermostat, refitting is reverse of removal, top up the coolant tank run car on tick over and bleed is you need to, I will try and do a full write up with photo's later today.

No video on me fitting it into my auto's top hose. If it were a game, it would be marked as a Pegi 18, as there was much swearing going on.
Here's where it fits on the auto top hose.

The manual is easier, as the top hose is a larger diameter.

This is a pic of my Freelander 1 TD4. Where does the extra thermostat go? As the pipe is no wide enough.View attachment 166426

You need to cut through the stainless steel band, on the end of the top hose then remove the hose from the car, once removed insert gates stat into the end of the hose that fits on to the engine few photo's below.

PS I am sure I have a top hose in the shed for the manual TD4 already with the gates stat inserted drop me PM if you are interested. As I now have an FL2
