vibration/ noise at front drivers side

Hi there to all,

just joined after lurking for a few months to see if this is the forum for me. looks good !!

i am in rural Portugal and i have a ongoing strange problem with my Disco , Vehicle Details: H reg 200 TDi , 2" lift and snorkel kit, full underneath protection running on Insa Turbo Dakar`s.

i have been getting a vibration / noise coming from the front drivers side , it occurs at 50mph ,( it used to be at 70mph but it is now at lower speeds ) i can only describe it as a woop woop noise that you can also feel through your feet and through the steering wheel. as if the wheel is square !!!.

to supposedly fix the problem so far i have had the following replaced by a landrover specialist garage:

Wheels, new tyres, front wheel retainer, engine mounting rubber, hub gasket.

so basiclly i am needing some advice on how to proceed from here, as it has cost me a fortune so far and i still have the problem, i will not be going back to the previous garage as they dont seem to know what they are doing.

Take control of the situation, what chance have you of getting a noise diagnosed on here. Or take it to a dealer and claim your money back from the garage.

When I worked in dealers we hated jobs like this because we lost money on them, cant charge the customer for parts and labour if it aint sorted, and even then you cant fit tons of parts eventually curing it and still charge for all the parts and labour.

If it was warranty work the garage would be onto plums so what are you waiting for, make them justify the cost.

thanks for the suggestion, but i will not be returning to the garage as they have pretty much refused to honour any kind of normal service you would expect .

unfort i am in rural central Portugal so things are done a bit different here regarding customer service and any kind of customer rights,

i was kind of hoping someone may have had or come across a similar vibration/noise problem

I have never heard of a Disco making a whoop whoop noise unless is was equipped with blue lights and sirens !!!!

You have a TDi 200 and the things that wear and start to make noises are:

1. Wheel and front swivel bearings;

2. Rubber suspension bushes and panhard rod bushes;

3. Front shocks;

All these things can be repaired by the average diy-er and parts purchased from places like Paddock Spares - Land Rover, Range Rover Parts & Accessories - Discovery, Defender and Freelander for very resonable prices with cheap shipping to Portugal.

If it was me and if I was planning to keep the vehicle for a couple of years at least, I would be planning to rebuild the above aspects myself, with the help of a Haynes manual.

Ok then, can you say when it first became obvious, did you change something, hit something, been off roading, anything.

You say its been raised, is it an issue with a propshaft, can you take the front shaft off and see if has a fooked joint, perhaps run it with diff lock and the prop off to see if it stops.

Need to do what the garage should have done and see if you can track it down to an area to help us. get in the passenger side with window down and listen, often a good idea to run it along a wall coz it sends the sound right back to you. Need to spend some time, and its important to narrow down the area to focus on. Get somebody to drive it past you stand at either side and see if you can hear it, simples.

If it were the front then I would have put the rear wheels on, not fit fokin new wheels and tyres.
