Vibrating Back Axle Help.

Hi folks,

Thanks for taking the time out to help. We have recently fitted Flo Flox orange polybushes last week but tonight whilst on the M1 of all places my back axle when travelling above 45 to 50 mph and hitting the cats eyes or a bump the axle/truck start to vibrate badly. Nothing appears to have come undone. Any ideas?

Maybe your dampers are on their way out? The new bushes will not absorb as much enrgy as the knackered old ones and are making the dampers do all the work. Just a guess.

How much does it vibrate? just a bit then settle down and are you sure it's the axle?
For instance, how sure are you it's not the anti roll bar?

have you put the bush the right side of the chassis mount? If not I suspect you have mounted the bushes in front of the rear mounts instead of behind them this brings the bottom of the axle forward lifting the nose of the diff and causing it to vibrate. It gets horrendus to the point of undrivable. Other than that check your uj's and diff input bearing.

some said 2 me that orange coloured bushes can do that, but the blue ones dont.

Guys thanks for all the feedback, it was two items

1. Replaced the dampers and one side had not been tightened up enough..DOH!

2. Replaced the ball joint to the steering pump arm as it was very badly worn, which then highlighted the passengerside ball joint was also Knackered!!! Replaced the bloody lot for good measure, just need sterring damper bushes to complete.

So the vibrating back axle was down to shagged dampers. When you think about it there was not much else it could have been other than a very badly unbalanced or wheel or a deformed tyre.

As for the steering ball joints and trackrod ends your next MOT would have picked them up. When I changed mine I got the ones with grease nipples in the end caps and religously give them a squirt with the grease gun every six months or so. As long as the rubber gaiters dont split they should last a very long time. Its rust in the ball and socket that kills them.
