There's a v8 Disco 2 for sale near me, 59k on a 03 plate. It looks very tempting and seems very, very tidy from the pics, usual droopy headliner. Got a full service history and recently had £1400 spent on servicing / exhaust. Been stood for 5 years though. up for £4000.

Very tempted to go have a looky see, but just wondering what are the pitfalls of a car hardly used for 5 years??? Anything to look for apart from the obvious chassis rot etc???

Seems a little pricey to me TBH.
If it's just had an expensive full service I would like to think it was in perfect running order??
Is it MOT'd??
Just give everything a good going over as you would with any car and good test run make sure everything works as it should and it doesn't overheat.

I think reading the blurb it has been recommissioned as such, i.e. the £1400 service inc. new exhaust & tyres so seems ok on that score. Belonged to an old boy who passed away. Just thinking about oil seals in the engine / gearbox and the like.

Oil seals pah i don't think the v8s have any lol

I personally would be weary.

look for the usual rot and take it for a long test drive to make sure it doesn't overheat!

Also, check the windscreen scuttle and the rear edge of the wheel arches where they meet the bulkhead in the engine bay.

Cheers

Check the rear chassis for rot, around the tank speshully ...

and then check it again ... not unheard for them to need a new partial chassis ...

Go for it, why no its will have a better performance than the Diesel variant, just do the usual checks thats done on a previous owned vehicle if it doesn't don't purchase it. Simples.

Already got a D1 V8 & used to have a P38 4.6 so it doesn't really bother me :)
result then. :) i had a D1 V8 and i loved it. i only (reluctantly) sold it because of fuel costs, it was my daily runner for work. considering the amount i've spent on my Td5's , it would have been cheaper to keep the V8!

well i didnt really mean the time, i meant the extra running costs ;)
I assume you are rearing to fuel compared to a four cylinder diesel/petrol. Mechanically there's not much difference in servicing costs from what I've seen.
Have owned a V8 engined vehicle for the last 32 years, I've never found it an issue, but maybe would if I was living on a "low income" or benefits. :D
