Ventilation has died

Hello forum.

I bought a Freelander last fall. In the winter I experienced problems with the ventilation - all of a sudden it just stopped working, no effect whether the switch was set to 0 or 4. I washed the car and immediately the ventilation worked again. This happened on several occasions through the winter, but washing the car always solved the problem. I guess something got plugged with ice/snow or whatever, it didn't seem like a coincidence that the washing helped, but what do I know, this car is pretty unstable. Anyway, I was driving in the mountains a couple of weeks ago, it was snowing heavily and the ventilation died again. Washing didn't help this time.

The heating/cooling works fine and I do get some air in when the car is moving, but the fan doesn't respond to the switch. I have checked the fuse, and it's not the problem.

I'm really short on money so it would be a great benefit to fix this myself. Does anybody have any clue on what the problem is?

Does the fan work on any speed or is it completely dead?

If it has worked intermittently check the heater fan wiring in the right hand footwell, there's a connection that can be disturbed by feet

i reckon the resistor pack, search and ye shall find...

If the fan is working does the heater/aircon work if you switch to re-circulate, if it does then your assumption that ice or snow is blocking the heater air intake is probably correct.

It's completely dead.

I tried to locate the heater fan wiring, but not sure if I made it. Any easy way to pinpoint it?

I can't locate the "green plastic with a wire block" as seen in the first picture in thread. This is what it looks like in my car:




However, doesn't it seem a bit unlikely that the resistor pack is the problem when washing the car helped so many times? It may have gone bad now though, without being related to the previous problems. A bad connection/wiring seems more likely, but I need more assistanse in pinpointing the wires in action.
