no need for reciepts and milage, we are required to keep "simple records" that is how much veg was put in and the date, nothing else.

Just come in from asda, the 3 lt bottles are now THREE 96,the sods. But they have some one lt oil for £1....were sold out though !

I was just thinking driving home, after filling with DERV,how less responsive the engine felt....all in the head?Or the wallet?

OK Bugger it........ Time to jump in with both feet.

I have a 200TDI 'K reg'. Tomorrow I will service it, clean out the sedementor too and then take a trip to Tesco (Clubcard points into Airmiles) and grab some oil.

I will then fillup on a straight 50/50 mix after all what can go wrong that a hammer and a spanner can't put right.

I will post once I have got some great information that may differ.

just have a spare fuel filter or 2 on board as the oil can lift scum from the bottom of your tank for a while.

Just been to ASDA in Ipswich, they put the price up today, to £3.49 for 3 Ltrs = £1.16.3333 per Ltr, Buggers, they must have guessed what people are doing, lol so got some any way.

Also noted that they had Diesel for £1,35.7 so stuck 30 Ltrs in for a 50/50 mix.

60 Ltrs of 50/50 cost me £76.05 instead of £ 81.24, making a saving of £5.19 for 60 Ltrs

So looking at price per Litre of 50/50 = £1 26.75p

So if there is 89 usable litres in the Tank a tank full of 50/50 should be £ 112 80.75p

And a tank of 89 Ltrs @ £ 1,35.7 = £120 77.3p a saving of £7 96.55p

Draw your own thoughts form that

You could save more than 7.96 quid on a tankful just by taking your right boot off the pedal a bit. In my book if there's a decent saving to be made it's worth it but for a few pennies a litre it ain't worth the bother.

Hardly ****in worth it Stu. Spend ages pouring it in from plastic bottles, oily hands and quarter panel and floor and then you have to ditch the bottles. Waste of time unless you get the kids to do it "for fun".

Dont forget thats maily cause diesel has gone down in Ipswich, for the mo, give it a week and it will be back up, and the oil has gone up as well, that will fall again, think the stores lock onto trends, and put prices up cause they see large amount of oil being brought all of a sudden. i'll prob look around and use veg oil when its cheap/diesel is high.

As I say bottles are no prob for me we got big wate bins in the flats...:D:D:D

We are lucky enough to have a place by us that actually sell BioDiesel on a forecourt at £1.13 a litre. I think i need to replace the filter though as it starting to stall now and then (anything else you can suggest), dunno if it in my head but seems to have perked the car up tbh. Only downside is smelling like a Chippyvan so I do mix it 25/75 Bio kinda subsided the whiff a bit LoL.

Went to a sainsburys in Manchester.......Feck all :( Tried one in Stockport ...nowt :( It must have only been in certain stores, not even an empty space on the shelves where they had been. When you pour the oil into tank dont use a standard funnel, the neck is to narrow and you have to wait for the oil to go down. I made a funnel by cutting the bottom off a Robinsons 2ltr cordial bottle with a wide neck, I put 24 ltrs of oil in the tank in a couple of minutes.

If you're pouring 20 litre drums, stab some holes in the top, opposite side to where the lid is.

Small bottles, turn upside down over funnel and stab hole in the bottom (now the top of the bottle). They empty out in seconds and they don't glug!

If I ever buy new oil, I try and get it in tins as I can use the oil AND scrap the metal cans when I next take a car or van to the scrappy.

Nick,

I have used the ASDA veg oil which if you look at whats in the bottle its 100% rapeseed oil, and its £2.93 for 3 ltrs so less then a £1 per Ltr

The oil is thicker then diesel so rubbish on the bottom of tank will be held in suspention easier, therefore change the filter so people say.

With the amount of milage I do Nick I have found no diffeance in MPG, just its costing my about £12 to £15 per tank cheaper, seeing i fill up upto twice a week at the mo its saved me a few pounds.

Just keep a list of milage and when you put it in and your recipts, noraml Tax'y type things. dont forget your allowance is only 2500 Ltrs in a rolling 12 months.
