VAG TDI Engine swap

Hi, Dont know if this has been covered before, but any information would be useful....

I'm trying to find out if the VW group TDI lump from the Golf (or similar) has been fitted to a series3.
If any one knows if its been done, can they point me in the right direction for informtion? I appreciate that to some this may be heresy, but you cant deny that the little TDI lump is useful...

Any ideas??

Int the Golf lump a transverse mounted front wheel drive motor?

Yup, the the golf one is, although the one in the Audi isnt as its longtitudinally mounted and drives the front wheels via a transaxle...

I'm particularly interested in the golf one as I have a ropy golf, ripe for its heart to ripped from its failing body and giving new life to a more worthy cause....'bout time we took the power bck from the jerries...sorry

now then bear with me because this is gonna take some time. right, the montego (popular perkins conversion type) had a golf box (fact) it was noted for being one of the large first cars (apart from the mini, metro) made by austin to have front wheel drive. this means thet by rights i a perkins montego engine fits a golf gearbox, and a golf engine fits a golf gearbox then all you should need is a conversion kit for a montego perkins to landy box.
however this is just theory so chck it first.

Still surprises me that the conversion is not more popular considering how many of these lumps there are out there.
