Hello all just joined, My 89 V8 ex Mil 110 has a problem with getting into forth gear..all kinds of crunching and horrible noises. I'm guessing this is a synchro problem. Am I faced with selling my house or putting my wife back on the street to pay for the repair...I'm not quite skilled enough to pull the gearbox apart myself..

Are you able to post a short vid (not sure if the site allows this) or audio file of the noise when you change up?

How does the clutch feel, operating normally?

ohh thank you for getting back... all the other gears are just fine when changing up and down. its just going into 4th I have the problem and it gets worse when the engine is warmed up..The sound is that of cogs spinning but not meshing together properly if that makes sense. Its just not seating properly..

About 1.20 south of Toulouse in the south of france... If you know of anyone who might fancy an all expenses paid trip for a few days to help fix the problem let me know. I have a workshop, plenty of tools...

In the largest wine producing area in the world if that makes a difference..😂
Sounds like a great ****up, but that may be to the detriment of your gearbox!
I can't do it due to commitments, but someone may be able to.
There are a number of Brit owners in France and it might be worth asking the question on one of the FB pages that is called something like Land Rover Defender Projects and.
The snag I foresee is that you will probably need a lift.
Having done an R380 on the deck, I can assure you that it's more hassle and time than it's worth.

Oh thats good advice thank you so much for your advice... I think I'm just going to bite the bullet and get my local guy to sort it...But thank you so much for your help..
