Hi all,
I'm wanting to check/adjust the timing on my recently acquired 96 v8 disco but unsure what the marks indicate. My Haynes suggested I would find a lovely TDC mark with degrees either side but this is not the case.
All I can find when looking down at the crankshaft pulley from the airbox side is a half cm or so channel across the pulley and a point on the alloy casting at the front of the block.
The pointer hits the middle of the groove at 0 degrees and with 2 degrees dialled into the strobe it hits the edge.
Haynes say 5 degrees btdc but another manual I have says 4? I think I am showing TDC? Am I reading this right? The reason I want to sort it is I am suffering a bit of knock under load, less so on gas but I reckon this would be expected due to octane rating.
Any help is much appreciated by someone who really wants to get this disco running right before it knocks itself to pieces!
Cheers,
Ritchie.
