Ive just about finished the rebuild on my 110 V8.

I replaced plugs, leads, cap and rotor arm (no points).

The motor starts easily, but only on 4 pots, Nos 3,5, 2 & 8. It then clears after a few seconds to run very smooth and revs up as it should.

But, when trying to drive it, it will rev fine but when you set off and try giving it some, it splutters, loses power until you let the throttle off.

Any ideas? I`m baffled:confused:

Check yer timing. Move #1 to TDC and check the timing marks line up. Then run engine with a strobe, if timing is way out, you need a new timing chain. If timing is spot on, prolly fuelling issue.

Mine were like that until I sorted ignition out. Start up an it was lumpy as fook. Hold at 1500rpm fer about 5 secs, an it was up on all 8, set of and it were still a bit stuttery until temp gauge started to move. Sorted lectrickery and timing out an runs sweet as a nut (EFi so no carbs to tit aboot wiff).

Well, its carb engine.

Seems if you dont rev it on start up it`ll stay on 4 for ages, but as you say, a few seconds at 1500- 2000rpm and it soon clears.

Sounds like i need to check timing first! Just need a stobe now!

Its done 135k so i suppose its earned a chain if it comes to it!

Cheers chaps, looks like im gonna try the chain next, is it much of a job?

Looks like a kit isnt too much cash, just another job to add to the list tho:(

Not too much of a job - a full weekend if it doesn't rain/Doris needs to go shopping etc. While your at it, I would check your rockers and tappets at the same time as these will be due for changing as well. Tappets are not expensive and you can get a full kit including various shime, it's just setting the preload can be a ****. MM4x4 do camshaft/tappet/rocker/rocker shaft kits fer only a few quid, but I would pay the bit extra and go for the duplex timing chain upgrade from RPi Engineering - fitted to mine, doesn't start stretching after 90k miles.
