Hi All

I'll apologise in advance as chances are I'm the type of poster that annoys the most, I don't really have any mechanical knowledge to speak of and have a problem.

I have a Disco 1 V8 efi that until last week was running fine. Then I started it up on the first turn, got about 100 yards down the road before it started bunny hopping.....

Fortunately it died outside my local friendly mechanics yard where it has been for the last week.

The symptoms are as follows.

You can start it pretty much ok and it will idle fine until it runs out of fuel, but the moment you try to give it throttle it acts as if it's getting starved of fuel.

It seems that if you very slowly add throttle its ok but anything faster then a gentle touch causes it to choke itself.

The mechanic has replaced the coil, plugs (not champ), fuel filter but is now scratching his head. I can't really afford to spend anymore money for him to just guess and randomly replace parts so hoped you gurus might have some ideas.

Thanks in advance for your time.

All the best

try unplug the airflow meter and see if the situation improves.

its a free test anyway.

next, id be taking the multimeter to the airflow meter to check it out.

then id be taking the multimeter to the throttle position sensor, and then the CTS, and so on.

this site will help you understand your efi :)

read it through, twice, then get to work.

your not as stupid as you think :p

First off, thanks for the feedback guys, it is much appreciated :)

As a bit of an update, my mechanic got some suggestions as well and thought that it might be something to do with the timing chain getting loose.

As a result he adjusted the chain a fraction and apparently the engine started running backwards pumping exhaust out of the air filter!

He then adjusted it some more and now it seems to be running fine, and we suspect that it may have something to do with the placement of the distributor.

Nonetheless we will see over the next few days if it keeps running ok but fingers X'd I will be off roading Pat not Stranded Pat :)

Thanks again and Ill update when I know more.

P
