hi there have just brought a new dizzy fromn e bay four my v8 but it hs a 3 pin black plug on it and my old one only has 2 can i make it work

Guess you talkin about the plug for the ignition amplifier. If ther eis a lead and a plug, sounds like you hav a remote ignition amplifier. Mine is attached to the body of the dizzy and then a two pin (female) plug connects onto that.

Will have to have a look, I remember seeing something somewhere about this. Are you sure you have the right Dizzy. I also seem to remember something about there being different amounts of advance depending on dizzy and model year.

If it is the case you only need to change the ignition amplifier, I know Intermota do a replacement for the DLM8 dizzy, there is a shop in Dunstable that can get them.

Try doing a search either for Lucas DLM8, or Ignition Amplifier, pretty sure you'll find the answer. If I manage to remember anything will post here.

BTW why did you replace your dizzy? They are pretty robust and don't as far as I know go wrong (although I stand to be corrected!!)

Adjusting the air gap is easy and as long as the lob weights do their thing it is pretty straight forward.

hi mate changed it as the bearing and oil seal had gone in it was picking up oil and filling up cap it it is out of a 3.5 efi has the black plug on the dizzy old one had 2 pins new one has 3 pins

I did have a thought (it does happen sometimes LOL).

You should be able to take the base plate and pick up out of your original dizzy and put them in the replacement dizzy. Set the air gap and it should be fine. It might also pay you to check the vacuum advance unit. Mine had failed completely and I didn't even know.
