V8 Defender fuel tank options

It seems amr1495 is the sender for a 300tdi. It has the pickup pipe which I'd need to use as a return.

STC1482 is the correct sender for petrol 110's till 1991, but does not have anything to use as a return.

Will amr1495 dissolve in petrol? I assume fuel resistance is the main difference?

use amr1495 as sender and return and rr hp pump in the top of tank

The 200tdi one is PRC8463 i think. Only difference seems to be that the newer amr one has a plastic pickup/return pipe. The PRC one has a metal one.

One assumes the plastic pipe on the newer sender is petrol proof. The float on the end of plastic after all.
 
my 90 tank has 3 holes. the sender goes in rear one (doesnt have a return at all), the pump goes in the forward one (which was the pickup) and the return goes into a small hole near the pump.

amr is the right one for 300 tdi aged vehicle and pipe is steel outer connector is plastic

this is mine. i used my original 200 tdi pickup at the rear and bought a RRC in tank fuel pump off ebay. You then have to extend the metal strip a bit so it goes to the bottom of the tank. I then bought a petrol return (all metal and short) which goes in that little hole on the right. the original one was metal and long. dont forget you need high pressure fuel line as well.
 
Thanks again both. My main 2 concerns are that 1)the float is correct for the tank and gives the right level. And 2) and plastic components will be petrol proof as well as diesel.

The HP fuel lines will need to wait till the tank, pump, etc have arrived. I've never looked at HP fuel lines and connectors, so don't know if it's just thick walls and jubilee clips.

From the sounds of it I want the amr sender, which I know is what you said a while back James, but I'm trying to understand as fully as possible as I go along.
 
I've managed to find the part number for the fuel pump cork seal, and the send unit locking ring and seal... The one thing left is the screws which hold the pump into the tank. Anyone know what size/type these are?

I think the pump will reach the bottom of the tank easily enough with a slightly longer section of hp fuel hose and the 2 halves of the metal support bolted together with only one bolt (less overlap). About 25cm deep.
 
I just wanted to update this. Amr1495 fouls the fuel pump quite a lot. I guess its designed for a tank where the pump and the sender are not in the same line on the tank.

I've ordered 1 x prc8463 this evening, and I'll see if it fits any better. I'll update the thread once it arrives. It may be that I have to modify one of them to cant then over to the right a bit.

On other news, a longer section of fuel hose on the pump assembly, and using only 1 bolt at its longest setting seems to be a perfect fit for the tank.
 
Prc8463 doesn't actually fit the tab holes in the side of the tank, which is interesting. It also doesn't have a return pipe, but does have the moulding so that you could add one.

I'm going to order the 3rd sender now off the bay and see what that is like, to see which option needs least modding. I suspect I'll just need to bend stuff on the amr sender to make everything fit.

you need to cut the pick up pipe short,as its going to be return it doesnt matter

I agree James, buy the float arm actually fouls worse than the pipe. The problem is that the float arm actually crosses over the top of the pipe to switch sides... Which is a shame. If it came straight out of the housing in straight line, it'd be perfect.

Here's a pic directly down the fuel pump hole.

Yes that looks like the plan, but I wanted to see if one of the standard senders had the exactly correct float arm shape.. Then in the future we can just say: its this sender, plus the arm from this sender..

Heres a pic of the amr and prc senders next to each other.

Arm from prc on the body of amr would work actually, looking at this.

Ah. Just notice from studying the contact circuit boards... prc is designed to be top-mounted in a tank.

Sadly prc is the one with the low fuel warning light wire. Amr has the correct 3rd track on the circuit board, but the connector isn't wired. Too add annoyance, the connectors are sealed in glue and only 2 wires come out on a fly lead.
 
i presume i just bent the arm it was quite a while ago ,though the amr senders you get now are poor made parts ,the last few wouldnt fit without cutting the feed pipe in a std tank and fitting
 
carrying on from this... I'll post up some details pics once I've finalised the mods needed to the sender & pump. meanwhile... I have a query:

I have only just noticed (thanks to a pic in LRO international mag), that there's a pile of mounting rubbers and spacer tubes needed for mounting the tank. Do any of you know if I can make do with thick M10 rubber washer either side of the tank lip?

failing that, do I need:

500447 x 2
NRC4757 x 1

for all 4 holes? 2 front, 2 back?

also there's front mounting bracket - NRC6097 - is there an equivilant for the rear? It's not apparent from the parts catalogue pic.
