V8 CHOKE CONTROL - WHAT SHOULD IT LOOK LIKE??

Can someone with an early Discovery 1 V8 tell me what the choke control should look like? Picture below shows choke knob exiting from dashboard, it looks to me like there was originally a plate or something like it behind it as it looks like there's an impression of something oblong having been there with six punctures of the fascia surface. I have tried to look for images online but found nothing. The two screws below I think are nothing to do with the choke, possibly someone had something fixed there at some point

That choke cable is an addition
