Using water!

I think you might have have been right Crashbox, it could be the hose. It emits a quiet "hiss" when squeezed, implying a small leak. If it's at the radiator end of the hose that might account for the "spray" over the inside of the bonnet. I've got a new one on order which I can fit this weekend. I'll see how I get on with that.
