Hi Guys, (Ladies and Gent)
I am hopping to get a true answer from you guys that may know, but is it safe to use Old cooking Oil as fuel for my Discovery 300tdi.
I have a 1996 300tdi ES Discovery with around 150,000 miles on the clock, she has never let me down in all the years I have owned her, even though I may have missed a few services and been quite late on the ones she has received. With the ever increasing cost of Deisal (Dick Turpin, in Government, demanding his cut of our hard earned cash) I have now taken to using my wifes Toyota Starlet for my daily 90 mile round trip to work and back and the wife uses my pride and joy for her two minite trips to schools and Shops. A friend of mine has an old Ford Transit that he uses for his scrap metal buisness and he has told me that he uses Neet Old Cooking Oil in it. He started of using 50/50 Deisal to Cooking Oil but now says he gave up on the Deisal and now uses the Old Cooking Oil that he gets free from a friend in the catering trade. He said that he has not paid for any fuel for his van in the last four months, and apart from it being a little slower on motorways (75-80mph) and smelling like a chip shop from behind he has not seen any problems. He did say that he changes the Fuel Filter more times than normal just as a precation but on the whole he says it works very well.
Apparently, befor putting the Oil into the van he passes it through a fuel filter with an extr fine mesh to get rid of any inpurities that it may have in it (Batter, or bits of food) then puts it straight in the tank. I Did once see on Top Gear JC filled a Deisal Volvo with fresh Cooking Oil straight from a Super Market and drove it around the track with no problems at all.
So before I reclaim my pride and joy back from the wife and start running her (Car not Wife) on old cooking oil, I thought I'd ask for any advice from you guys here.
Many thanks for any help you may be able to give.
