Urgent: Badly overheated. I don't dare turn off.

Theory is to pump some hot water out of the engine and into the rad every now and then.
Turning engine off will allow heat to build but tickover for a min will move water around and help bring temp down
Water in this case though was probably not moving as level too low for pump to pump

Not my theories just what I have heard over the years (disclaimer;))....:)

also if the fan is engine driven it would help.

i don't think it's too mad to idle it, if it pumps the water and the fan spins.

it's faster to freewheel it down a hill though ;)

used to freewheel my 90 a lot when it over heated , finally got around to fitting a fan then ruined it shortyly afterwards in water

also seized my bosses mk6 tdci transit van solid a few weeks ago , wouldent even turn over , after a while it turned and ran , its been in daily use ever since ! mental

I had 2 mk6 transits, I have owned a mk7 for 2.5 years and every day I think why did I sell my 1st mk6,

agreed . the mk7 that is now replacing that mk6 I fried is utter ****e !

the mk6 is still with us till it sells but I hate the new van with a passion despite its tidiness and good looks it drives like crap and is alreay giving more problems at 60.000 than the mk6 has at 148.000 miles

MK5 & MK6 are both rust buckets, engine will outlast the body on my MK6, it's on 164K I think.

to be fair the engines on the earlier models kept going but were just crap when it comes to power , would be good for generators or something

mk5,mk6,mk7 are all rust buckets , we had a mk7 in with 95k for an engine replacement a few months ago , now since then the roof and arches are badly rusted , all in about 5 months !
