Freelander 1 UREGNT advise needed

Ok Alex. The immobiliser ECU is behind centre of dash, communicates with the chip in the key, the one that you put in the lock, and is a complete dash removal to get at.

The fob, the thing with 2 buttons on, talks to the CCU and can easily be reprogrammed to match the correct but uncoded or incorrectly coded fob. If you buy a fob and a CCU then they talk to each other and the CCU is behind the inside fuse box. Make sure, if you change the CCU that you get the correct 3 or 5 door one to suit your vehicle.

If you have no actual key to copy, only LR can produce it unless you change the locks and key and then the chip in the key head portion must match the Immob unit.

He replied very quickly, which bodes well. Recons if i send the door lock and the ECU (he referred to as EWS) he can make a key and code a chip. Even sent me a photo of he EWS so I know what I am looking for.

So still got to remove dash, but that's relatively easier than I had feared.

Freelander 1 - EWS location?

I have a 2004 Freelander. I'm a bit stumped hoping someone can help. I'm trying to locate the EWS because I need to have a key programmed to crank the vehicle. Reading some threads I thought perhaps it was behind the radio. I removed the radio and instead found what I believe to be the...

The entire dash has to come out to get to the EWS. It's a pig of a job. The best solution IMHO is to wait for Landrover to supply a new key. My understanding is that they order them precoded to the vehicle so that the new one just works.
