Well that was a royal pain in the ass, and I'm none the wiser. Couldn't get the heat shield all the way off for two other rivets round the back; and couldn't bend it out of the way properly for pipes going over the top
I've tried to get a decent image of what I did see, so maybe someone can see something?
You can sort of see in the still image and at the start of the video that there's blackening at the far end (closest to the rest of the car); the rest looks like a bit of corrosion here and there but little else.

And you definitely can't get the 1 rear bolt out the back of the shield? Through the hole in the shield with a small extension bar? Cause if you can get that out you don't need to drill anything.. and sorry haven't really caught up with the thread so don't know if you've tried

Yeah, I did try it but it wouldn't budge. coated it with some WD40 in the hope of loosening it for another time.

If you can't get to it to apply heat, maybe let the engine heat it up and wait for it to cool again, I would have thought you could snap the head pretty easy rather than not being able to get it out at all.
But looking at those pics, I think you have found your problem.

So a new manifold it is, then. It'll be cheaper to get one myself and take it along for fitting - any suggestions?

Well the one I bought for mine (engine isn't fitted yet) was from ebay, exactly the same as the original and came with with all the gaskets. I've heard some people like to cut the metal webbing between the exhaust ports so they can expand and contract individually, but I didn't do that. Anyway the kit cost about 100 quid on fleebay brand new. Chances are a couple of the studs will snap when removing them, then have to be drilled and replaced, the kit comes with a few spares.

If you haven't fitted yours yet then I'd be a little cautious that it could warp again :-/

Well i guess it's either, cut that webbing out between the ports, or spend a hell of a lot more on an upgraded one, with any luck though it should be good for another 15 years.
I think it is also possible to upgrade to thicker studs by drilling and tapping bigger holes, would make it harder for it to warp.
