Upgrading 90 for more speed?

My 1993. 200tdi 90 with standard gear box etc will do 70mph no bother and a bit more if you can stand the noise.

1.2 transfer box on 34" special tracks and my 200tdi still pulls like a train with a good fuel pump adjustment and intercooler to keep temps cool. Will beat most tdi 's off the line. Will sit happy at 65/70 and can take it up to just shy of 90 downhill wind behind before it gets abit worrying.

Yes, the two don't really go together, but this ladies vehicle does seem exceptionally slow!

I agree you guys are all saying that your 200tdi's sit happily at 60/65 my wont.

Check what transfer box you have.

Check that timing in all 3 pulleys is right - even 1 tooth out on the belt can make a big difference

Check tappet clearances

Check all air intake connections are tight with no leaks and check that no hoses are internally delaminating

Check your fuel injection pump is actually delivering increased fuel at boost - the pin often seizes but can be worked free - ask if unsure

Also check your throttle cable is setup properly - I had to re-route mine when I went 2.5na to 200tdi to enable me to get full throttle travel - I found that I was inadvertently limited to about 70% travel which knocks a chunk off your top end. So check that to.

I think you would benefit aswell changing the exhaust to the proper larger bore tdi exhaust - this probably isn't the root cause but won't be helping.

Could be a combination of things aswell so check it all.

If your diffs are standard and your transfer is the 1:1.4 (should have a sticker on the underside - usually hidden under grime) then it is the engine not delivering power.

And if that all checks out then it's time to delve deeper - injectors, turbo, compression etc
