Hello

Cats eyes/Mad hat man

your right I wasn't very clear on my post I have a T reg 2ltr diesel , the MARK II has nothing to do with the car thats another story and not very interesting . and I don't know what I want ,but I glad to hear that the drive problems were sorted out after 2001.I was starting to look at the nissan xtrail but I have got a bit of a freelander bug now god help me .

glad to hear that the drive problems were sorted out after 2001.

The drrive problems were NOT sorted - the ratio was adjusted on the VCU, but they are still susceptable to a miriad of drive faults - VCU lock up, Prop bearings, Rear diff mountings, IRD failure - you name it - there are lots with any combination. Not to mention the other faults. The Hippoo is a good looking vehicle, and the best off-roader in its type (when its working) - but if you want reliability, then look elsewhere. (see disclaimer below)

oi Bagpuss
wud yu like to explain how changin the tyres, increases the torque, to a technofobe like me?

It should not have read like that. What I meant was the engine had plenty of low rev torque and that with a more agrresive pattern tyre for off road use, it would be just as good off road as on it.:)

But you could affect the way the vehicles torque is used by having different sized wheels and tyres though.

OK thanks for the info I shall give a td4 a test drive to see what I think ,the freelander may have its problems but the parts are cheaper and there are loads of good people to get advice and help from unlike most other makes.:D
