I have a 99 2ltr td and was thinking of getting a newer model did they sort out the IRD problems and other assorted problems on the later models and is the td4 better than the earlier td,what year did they get it right if any .I look forward to any advise given.

Hey Mark, I have a new TD4 engined FL. It is the dogs mate. Its a BMW engine, goood for motorways and once i get some different tyres on her, plenty of low rev torque.

Well a bit off topic but nothing new there :)
I saw a Freelander2 on my way home yesterday. 1st one I've seen in real life..............It's *king awful!!! It was some some of geryish colour........looked like the prototype with the covers still on!!!

Oh and Mark...........Elsenham's a nice town...........I used to live in Stortford, had a florist shop there...........used to deliver to Elsenham. :)

oi Bagpuss
wud yu like to explain how changin the tyres, increases the torque, to a technofobe like me?

I was browsing through some of the older brochures for the FL 2000-2003

The Td4 has almost as much power as the petrol 1.8 and even more torque than the V6. A good combination. I have never been a fan of auto gearboxes but JATCO gets thumbs up from alot of FL drivers on here. Td4 also available in manual.

It seems that the ratio for the Final drive was sorted in 2001, before there was 0.8% difference

On the FL2 theme. First one I saw was ASBO orange colour, looked hidious. Saw another one in black parked up.

Spent ages looking at it and just couldnt see the appeal. They are very bland and dont have the style of the FL1

It IS prone to overheating, particularly if used for towing - its another one of those extra coolers, I'm afraid.

little bit confused here Mark - yu said a freelander mk II and then ask when they were "fixed" - what do you mean - the later versions of the Mk1 - ie body revamped - or one of the NEW Freelander 2's?
