Unfortunate noise from top-end

Aye, I do a good few long trips in the Landy but I do give it a good check for levels, grease, etc pretty regularly or it would break. Not like my modern (Mazda) car. That's run with the gearbox holding no more than a wetting of oil for the last 30,000 miles and the bugger still won't die!

No doubt I'll come a cropper at some point and the engine or gearbox will drop to bits. Probably on both motors within a few days of each other!

Now then, I just spotted this in the bottom of one of the core plugs in the head...any ideas what it could be? It could have been in there for some time hidden by oil.

Its got fairly sharp edges and looks like its been rattling around in something....and sheared off I don't recognise it but the hole in the middle is about the same size as a valve stem...there's a few bits of swarf hanging off the inner circumference

i dont think it is put cant say what it is
would agree with you on first pic, but second, with finger there for size comparison and the profile of face, does look like crush washer.
first pic kinda looks like a sheared off valve spring cap initially

edit-
or a press stud or cuff link thing from someones coat!

Cheers lads,

If its an injector washer then I've no idea where it's come from - I've not been near any diseasels for a while.

I'll check all the valve spring caps - is that likely?

I can't believe that I'd drop something in like that I'm pretty careful around the engine and I'm sure it would have been spotted if the head had come with an extra bit!

I suppose it could have flow across the garage from the grinding bench but that's a good distance away...
