Mines off at present as 8mm checker plate, reinforced with 10mm x 100mm plain plate bolted to the sub frame makes the handling a bit too lairy! :D

After years of cursing mine every year when I remove it, I've finally got round to modifying it. The "key" is large plastic panel trim rivets from Halfords. ( Halfords | Halfords Trim Panel Rivets (HFX363) ) £2.79 for 8 rivets. These are a bit like plastic "pop" rivets. You push the plastic pin in and the rivet expands. The pin has a Philips screw head and can be screwed out for removal. The rivet then prises out easily. So basically I drilled out all the large aluminium rivets and replaced the four accesible under the car with the trim clips. The ones at the front are really unnecessary. So to remove the plastic bit I only have to use a 10mm socket or spanner to remove the bolts at the rear, and a Philips screwdriver to remove the the four plastic rivets and "Bob's you uncle" removed and replaced in seconds! This is a facelifted TD4.

Finally got round to doing this today and am really glad I did :)
Putting the undertray back on was nearly as much a pain as taking it off even with greasing and new bolts

Hopefully gaining access to do an oil change will be much simpler in the future. Thank you very much for the tip :5bcheers2:

I don't mind the standard fixings for the under tray........:behindsofa:

But I still got to change plastic center for metal/alloy.

When you have spent as much as I have on snap on tools and now they are getting very little use as I no longer use them for work every bolt is an excuse to actually get some use from them.

Tbh not having much use for my tools was why I got a green oval!

That's cheating, I bet you got one of those fancy hydraulic car lifts too?

Nope. Just a tiny over full garage, a trolley jack, some axle stands and a set of 4 wheel ramps..... Oh and a load of patience. :hijacked:

don't worry the patience wears thin soon enough;)

this thread is still on track :)
Its a mod that saves time, simple oil changes take twice as long due to the many different size OEM bolts. worth doing the mod if you plan on long term ownership IMHO

My freelander came without a sump guard. I ordered a oem one up to only offer it up and find that half of the bolts had snapped :( So now thinking of making my own one up somehow. So this thread has been inspiring to do so. :)

Hi
Your mail thread edited September 07 2010 sumpguard.jpeg showing dimensions. Hard to read the original. Thanks.

Only trawling through this old thread, best to PM members about specifics, as only subscribed threads throw up email notifications!

The original attachment in post #17 is no longer legible, it was uploaded under the old forum format,

The forum changed server and software a few years back, sadly I no longer have the image or source from where it came from (wasn't my drawing) but should be easy enough to fabricate.

No doubt you'll share it with us all when you do ;)
