I will have a looksie at mine next time I am on the dual cabbage way. I only thought a couple of days ago it revs high.
My 235 75 15s should help when I finally get them on!

1.8 box does not fit a td4 iirc. I always feel that td4s are wrongly geared. With 15 inch wheels and 195 80 15 tyres mine does about 2900 at 70 but the rev counter is a but variable so could be up to 3100. It's ok but you can't comfortably go much faster in my opinion

I'll have to drive mine on the motorway or dual carriageway to find out what my TD4 auto does with 225/65 R17 tyres. Not thought about it, but they are about 6% larger..... (or about 10% larger than the 215/60R16 winter tyres on 16: rims I had on before :D )

The rev counter and speedo can be up to 10% inaccurate in ether direction. This makes accurate speed and rpm measurements impossible with out using the engine live data and a sat nav.

I have a Scangauge 2 fitted.

Just been on the motorway.
Speed (adjusted by 6% to compensate for larger 225/65R17 tyres) now agrees with my Tom Tom GO 6000 almost all the time.

60mph = 2150rpm
70mph = 2500rpm

2006 TD4 auto.

Just remembered this thread..... On the way to work yesterday I checked.

60mph 2750rpm

70mph. 3250rpm

And I know my speedo under reads by about 9%

60mph (according to the speedo) is 2900 rpm!

My L series-

50mph - 2000rpm
60mph - 2400rpm ish, maybe a touch more
70mph - 2800rpm ish

215/65 16 tyres

I have a spare L series gearbox but it needs a little repair around the drain bung

Well mines way out then. I've not checked out the bell housing yet but there is a big discrepancy.

Allowing 10% inaccuracy. If you are getting an engine speed of around 3200 Rpm at an indicated speed of 70. It's very likely that the 1.8 box has been fitted at some point.

I think the only sensible thing to do is put the biggest tyres you can on.....what a shame!

i put a set of 205 80 16s on today on the rear. got to order some more to do the front. the rear seems noticably softer (which with a pregosaurus rex is a benefit) hopefully they will help.

need to do a lift before i go any bigger of course but got lots of other vehicles to sort in the meantime.

I hope you have removed the propshaft?
